What is MOEMS?

Moems is an elementary and middle school math competition dedicated to problem-solving.

We will also provide a handout and problem sheet after each class so you can review the material learned in class and apply it to real MOEMS problems.

Homework will be structured as follows:

Problem 1-3: Review

Problems 4-8: Past MOEMS / Competition Problems

Problems 9-10: Challenge Problems beyond the level of MOEMS

Hints and thorough solutions will be provided for each homework problem.

Course Syllabus:

Week 1: Introduction to Fractions and How to Use Them

Week 2: Introduction to Basic Algebra such as working with variables

Week 3: Solving Word Problems Involving Algebra

Week 4: Ratios and Proportions

Week 5: Multiples and Divisors (LCM and GCD)

Week 6: Solving Harder problems with LCM and GCD

Week 7: Introduction to Counting and Probability

Week 8: Introduction to Geometry (Area and Perimeter)

Jesse Doan’s book for Math Olympiads: This covers all of MOEMS material and even more, however, this does not contain any MOEMS problems.
